Organisation: Widening Scope for Rights and Development. WISCORD

Pays: Nigeria

Poste: Programme Officer

Expérience:
Working with WISCORD as a Programme Officer has given me opportunity to be involved in different areas of women’s rights and empowerment. I have been actively involved in all the programmes and project activities provided by my organization since I became a member of the team. Presently, I am the coordinator of a Youth Empowerment programme tagged ‘The Young and Emerging Leaders’ Initiative (YELI)’. The 2-year intensive programme is specially designed for young undergraduates’ students especially female from some selected Nigeria universities. The programme is been undertaken with two separate groups of students at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria and the University of Ado-Ekiti (UNAD), Ekiti State, Nigeria. The programme specially pays particular attention to empowering young women because gender stereotypes, stemming from patriarchal culture, and which elevate men at the expense of their female counterparts, remain a key factor for the relegation of women to the back seat in Nigeria. This programme also aimed at developing the capacities of young female undergraduates by equipping them with effective leadership and decision-making skills, by building their capacity in communication and in all, exposing them to a wide range of development issues.
I have also been involved in gender mainstreaming and leadership trajectory process for about five national organizations. The activities that I have undertaken include assessing the effectiveness of mainstreaming gender in the activities of these organisations, and monitoring the implementation of developed action plans.
I have also participated in the process of developing HIV/AIDS workplace policy for local organisations. I have been involved in different human rights training from a gender perspective. Moreover, I have been involved in organizing capacity building workshops on gender and leadership at different levels. In addition, my organization is involved in the development of a country profile on women’s political, economic and social status in Africa for some African countries of which I took active part.
